To be able to save lives at sea requires more than boats and equipment. In Luleå's archipelago, many people spend time each year, and when something happens, the volunteer sea rescuers are often the first on the scene. For more to be able to engage and for efforts to be carried out quickly and safely, a functioning base is needed. Today, important parts are missing in the station house, which limits both recruitment and the ability to create an inclusive environment for all who want to contribute.

At the same time, there is a strong local commitment. Volunteer forces, associations, and partners are already contributing to the operations, and the interest in participating is great. With the right conditions, the place can become more than a rescue station – a meeting place where knowledge about maritime safety is spread to schools, associations, and visitors, and where more feel welcome to engage.

To create that opportunity, the station house in Luleå will be completed with accessible and functional spaces. This includes, among other things, a handicap-accessible toilet on the ground floor, shower room, sauna, and changing rooms, as well as a toilet adjacent to the meeting room. When the facilities are ready, they can be fully utilized for emergency operations, training, and collaboration – and contribute to increased safety throughout the archipelago.
