Bakery on Seskarö
About the project
To preserve a living food culture and create new meeting places on the island, the Seskarö Local Heritage Association has built a bakery in the middle of the village, opposite the People's House. The idea grew out of a desire to bake together across generations while also offering something unique for both newcomers, summer guests, and visitors.
The bakery has been built with voluntary efforts, from the foundation and timber framing to the masonry of the baking oven. The result is a fully equipped space with a ramp, wood storage, and an oven that is already being used frequently for courses and baking days. Young people on the island have long requested the opportunity to bake, and now the tradition is being carried on through both study circles and themed days.
