Nature and Culture in the Gulf of Bothnia archipelago

In order to create better conditions for archipelago activities and increase interest in destinations both among visitors and locals, guide manuals were developed for 20 different destinations in the archipelago. This work included the collection of facts about each object, documentation with images and text, as well as the creation of maps. The material was based on extensive research work where publications, the National Heritage Board's knowledge bank ”Fornsök,” and experiences from individuals with long experience in the tourism industry in the Bottenviken archipelago formed the basis. To ensure that the information was current and relevant, photography of the objects was also conducted. Finally, the information was packaged in a guidebook that was distributed to both local actors in the tourism industry and visitors.

”We wrote a handbook for the tourism companies that guide in the Bottenviken archipelago. The book has a broad content with guiding techniques, facts, and more. Everyone we are in contact with uses the book. We met with the Luleå Guide Association last week, and they reported that they have been using the book since it was published, among other things during guided tours with the vessel M/S Laponia.”.
